Hand Specialists

Using state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and surgical techniques, our specialists provide comprehensive care for sports and work related injuries, traumatic injuries, arthritic conditions, congenital deformities, and repetitive stress injuries involving the hand, wrist, and elbow. We perform arthroscopy of the wrist for ligament and cartilage injuries and offer joint replacement for the hand, wrist, and elbow. Minimally Invasive Knee and Hip Replacement Surgery
Done through a few small portals, instead of the 12- to 18-inch incision used in traditional joint replacement surgery dramatically reduces time in the hospital, pain and expenses. This innovative approach uses cement-less implant that grows into the bone. Because it involves less cutting of muscle, tendons and ligaments, patients recover more swiftly and may go home the day after surgery, compared to a four- or five-day hospitalization for traditional hip replacement surgery. The same prosthetic hip implants used in the traditional surgery are used with the new technique. What makes it revolutionary is that surgeons access the hip, cut the bone and insert the artificial hip through two portals - each less than 2 inches long - instead of one large incision. The instruments used in hip replacement surgery were modified to accommodate the new approach. Joint deterioration can make even the simplest activities painful. Applying the latest advances in joint replacement surgery, including a new high-flex knee implant that provides patients with greater flexibility - up to 155 degrees, compared with 133 degrees in existing artificial knee implants. That's why you want a doctor and team using the latest surgical procedures to restore function and mobility faster and with less pain to get you back on your feet. Minimally Invasive Spine and Cranial Surgery
Our surgeons are able to remove herniated intervertebral discs in the lumbar spine that are putting pressure on the spinal nerve roots and causing pain, in a minimally invasive fashion. New minimally invasive technologies also are allowing spine surgeons to stabilize the posterior aspect of the spine with smaller incisions and less damage to the ligaments, fascia, and muscles of the spine than with a traditional "open" posterior spinal fusion. This minimally invasive revolution has influenced virtually every surgical field. Minimally Invasive Endovascular Neurosurgery and Interventional Neuroradiology are used along with immobilization techniques (reducing the significant blood loss encountered in many brain, head/neck and spinal tumors). The potential benefits of small incisions, limited tissue disruption, enhanced visualization and illumination, result in shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery times. Our surgeons keep the focus on patient recovery while offering new technologies and products that potentially offer better outcomes. Pain Management
Our Pain Management Department offers a multi-disciplinary approach to the treatment of acute and chronic pain syndromes utilizing the skills of our board certified specialists who evaluate, diagnose and treat young adults through seniors with chronic pain syndrome resulting from accidents, injuries, disease or other anomalies that cause debilitating pain. Evaluation is provided through comprehensive clinical assessment and diagnostic testing, which may include facet blocks, radio frequency denervations, disco grams, cervical thoracic, lumbar epidurals, and acupuncture or the implantation of a neurostimulator. People who receive neurostimulator devices suffer from chronic pain, which physicians generally define as pain that lasts at least 6 months and is not relieved by standard medical management. Patients with implantable spine-stimulation devices for chronic pain once needed surgery whenever the batteries ran down; our physicians offer the type of neurostimulator that will allow patients to recharge the implant themselves. The goal is to help you overcome your pain through a comprehensive treatment plant that is tailored to your individual needs. Foot & Ankle
Dedicated to providing state of the art evaluation and treatment of foot and ankle problems, we offer comprehensive, specialized care for virtually all foot and ankle related musculoskeletal ailments. This includes work and sports related injuries, fractures, foot and toe deformities and more. While we specialize in surgery, many lower extremity problems we see can be treated successfully non-operatively. At Healthcare Associates, we take pride in the advanced education and knowledge our physicians possess, which has allowed us to offer the innovative medical services we began more than 30 years ago. We are exceptionally proud of our professional staff and we're happy to be providing the residents of Staten Island with the most advanced methods of medical care.
