Orthopaedic Trauma

Orthopaedic Trauma is a subspecialty in the field of Orthopaedic Surgery that deals primarily with complex fracture patterns in the severely injured. The proper treatment of even “simple” fractures can be invaluable to the patient’s ultimate survival and long-term recovery at a high functioning level. In this regard, the orthopaedics assists the trauma surgeon who is the “captain of the ship” overseeing the welfare of the patient during this critical time period. High impact injuries such as motor vehicle, motorcycle and industrial accidents have resulted in many complicated fractures. The special techniques required to treat these fractures are obtained with specific instruction in fracture fixation provided during fellowship training.
